What is Exercise Philosophy?
Exercise Philosophy is a website dedicated to the exercise of philosophy via the philosophy of exercise. In the first meaning, the term "exercise" is used to denote practice. I am engaging in the practice, or exercise, of philosophy through this blog. In the second meaning, the term “exercise” refers to a broad array of physical activity – including, but not limited to, training for sport.
Who am I?
My name is Jacob. I am the owner of a company called Anarchos Training Methods, and have been a professional in the fitness industry for a little over decade, and a (thoroughly mediocre) athlete for as long as I can remember. My athletic background primarily consists of combat sports, CrossFit, and the constituent elements thereof.
I am also an amateur philosopher, if such a thing exists. My main interests are ethical and political theory. But there is a lot of work available on those subjects, written by far more qualified persons than myself. On the subjects of health, exercise, and training, however, relatively little philosophy has been done, and relatively few people have one foot in each world to quite the same extent that I do.
That being the case, Exercise Philosophy exists because I want to practice my philosophy, and I hope that in doing so in a public forum, and with regard to a subject with which I can reasonably claim a degree of expertise, I will hone my critical inquiry and my ability to craft and express arguments, and have a few interesting discussions along the way.
Thanks for reading!
